mPanel is BinaryLane’s primary cloud management interface, allowing customers to manage their VPS, networking, domains, billing, and support requests. This guide provides an overview of mPanel’s navigation and serves as a continuation of the 'First Steps' guide, providing a detailed look at how to navigate and manage your services within mPanel.

Server Dashboard Navigation and Usage

Your Server Dashboard is where you will primarily interact with your server on BinaryLane. You'll be able to perform tasks such as rebooting, reviewing your server's usage charts, modifying your server's configuration via the 'Change Plan' page, adjusting advanced settings and more:

The dashboard is segmented into 7 parts:

  1. Top-navigation bar:
    • Home button () :

This button will direct you back to your main server dashboard if you're on any sub-page (e.g. 'Advanced Settings', 'Firewall Editor' etc.)

    • Drop-down box () :

This indicates what service you're currently viewing. You can click this box to quickly navigate to any other services you have on the same BinaryLane account.

    • Settings icon () :

This is where you will access shortcuts for your server's settings, clicking this button will open a menu that you can use to navigate to your certain VPS settings:

For information on what these settings can do, please refer to our helpdesk article on the matter: Advanced Settings : BinaryLane

    • Resource statistics bar () :

An at-a-glance overview of your server's reported resource usage, including CPU utilisation percentage, current RAM usage, remaining disk space, the monthly data transfer limit for this service and how many days until this limit resets. This information is pulled from your server's Resource Graphs, accessible via the settings menu.

    • Change Plan () :

Clicking this button will take you to your server's 'Change Plan' page. From here, you can add more resources to your server or reduce them, change your current operating system (see section 'Rebuilding Your VPS and Choosing Another Operating System' in our helpdesk article How to Rebuild Your VPS for more information) or include additional add-ons (e.g. Remote Desktop SALs, cPanel accounts etc.). You'll be able to review the current cost and monthly change at the bottom of this page before confirming any changes.

  2. Server Status:

    • Here, you'll be able to see if your server is running, if external connectivity towards your server is working via the built-in ping check (see section 'Ping Check in mPanel' in our helpdesk article BinaryLane mPanel service IPs for more information), which region your server is located in, what host-node (the underlying server) your VPS is currently housed on and what the storage type for this server is.

    • You can also restart your server by clicking, which sends a reboot command for the server to process. If the server is unresponsive to these requests, you can perform a Power Cycle using. This forcibly reboots the underlying virtual machine (VM) and may be required in some circumstances.

  3. Server Access Details:
    • This section provides essential access information for your server, including the server’s hostname, 'root' username, and your 'root' password. This password will be masked once you've reloaded the page or navigated away. It also contains a direct permalink - a unique identifier as a permanent DNS "A" record mapping to its IP for automated hostname resolution.  You'll find a quick-access link to our SSH guide, and if your server is linked to a partner server, its details will be displayed in this section.

  4. Server Networking Details:
    • The Network section provides essential details about your server’s connectivity and security settings. The exact fields displayed depend on your server’s configuration, such as whether it is in a VPC with NAT, VPC with a split-NIC setup, or a standard network configuration.

      Common Fields:

      • Public IP Address – The external IP assigned to your server.
      • Internal IP (LAN/VPC IP) – The private network IP, which may be a NAT-assigned address or a separate internal network interface.
      • Reverse DNS (rDNS) – The PTR record for your IP, which can be modified if needed.
      • Port Blocking – Indicates whether certain outbound ports are restricted for security reasons.
      • Cloud Firewall – Shows whether the cloud firewall is enabled or configured.

    • Additional Fields (Based on Configuration):

      • Secondary IP(s) – Additional public IPs assigned to your server.
      • IPv6 Address – Displays your assigned IPv6 address. If IPv6 is disabled, a link to enable it will appear.
      • IPv6 Routed – If applicable, shows the routed IPv6 subnet.
      • Subnet Mask – Specifies the subnet assigned to your public IP.
      • Default Route – Displays the default gateway for outbound traffic.
      • Network MTU – The Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size for the network.
      • Name Servers – Lists the DNS resolvers assigned to your server.
      • Source/Destination Check – A setting typically relevant for VPC-based networking, which determines whether traffic not originating from your instance is allowed through.

  5. Server Disk Details:
    • Here, you can see the total disk space allocated to your server. If you click on the displayed storage amount, you'll be taken to your disk allocation settings page where you can split your primary disk into multiple disks. It also displays when your last backup for this server occurred (clicking on the link will take you to your server's 'Snapshots, Backups & ISO Management' page) and a quick-access link to the 'Reinstall' page for your server.

  6. Kernel Selection Section:
    • This section allows you to change the kernel running on your VPS, enabling you to boot into the Finnix Recovery CD for system maintenance, troubleshooting, or data recovery. The selected kernel determines how your server boots and operates, providing access to different tools and environments.

  7. Recovery Console (NoVNC framebuffer stream)
    • The Recovery Console provides direct access to your server’s virtual display using a NoVNC-based framebuffer stream. This feature allows you to interact with your server as if you were physically connected to it, making it an essential recovery tool when standard remote access methods like SSH are unavailable.

If your server becomes unresponsive or you experience network-related issues preventing internet-based access, the Recovery Console lets you log in and troubleshoot problems directly. This can be especially useful for resolving internal firewall misconfigurations, network settings errors, software crashes or system lock-ups that prevent normal operation.

Clicking will open the console in a larger view, allowing for easier interaction.
