mPanel is BinaryLane’s primary cloud management interface, allowing customers to manage their VPS, networking, domains, billing, and support requests. This guide provides an overview of mPanel’s navigation and serves as a continuation of the 'First Steps' guide, providing a detailed look at how to navigate and manage your services within mPanel.

This is the navigation pane, it's what you'll use to move around the BinaryLane platform:


Tip: Pressing / (forward slash) will open Search wherever you are on the platform, as long as you're not focused in a text input area/box: Jump to 'Search' section for more info on how to use the Search functionality

Services


Clicking the 'Services' button will take you to your services page, this is where you'll be able to see all your Servers (VPSs), Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) and any Load Balancers:



Click on the name of your server to be taken directly to the console view for that server.

From this tab, you'll be able to add new servers using the  button.


You can change the view to show only servers that are in a VPC by clicking 'VPC's':



From this tab, you'll be able to create new VPCs using the button. You can also modify existing VPCs by clicking the button next to the VPC you want to edit.

You can change the view to show only load balancers and their associated servers by clicking 'Load Balancers':


From this tab, you'll be able to create new load balancers using the button. You can also modify existing load balancers by clicking the  button next to the load balancer you want to edit.




Domains


Clicking the 'Domains' button will take you to the management page for your domains. You'll be able to see a list of the domains you've created or transferred into BinaryLane:



If you have a domain with us and they're not using our nameservers, you will see the following notice/alert:


You can register new domains or transfer existing domains by clicking . We can also facilitate DNS hosting for your domains (Click  for DNS Hosting)


The `Registration Status`, `Expires`, and `Registrar` details are fetched from Whois. To fetch the latest details, you'll need to click .

Note: For new accounts, the ability to purchase new domains is disabled by default. If you'd like to purchase domains on BinaryLane, please reach out to support asking us to enable Domain Purchases for your account.




Billing


The 'Billing' tab will take you directly to your Billing page where you can see your total pending usage charges, when the next invoice is expected to be issued, and a breakdown per service of pending charges:

You can add funds to your account by clicking the  button.


You can change the tab to show all previously (and due-payable) invoices by clicking 'Invoices':


Clicking the button will take you to the 'PDF' view for that invoice: Can I get invoices as PDF files?


You can change the tab to your current payment details used to process due-payable invoices by clicking 'Payment Details':


Clicking the button will take you directly to your account's billing settings where you can adjust your payment method: What payment options are supported?




Account


The 'Account' tab will take you to your 'Account Information' page, where you can review and adjust your billing, contact information, security details (such as your password, Google Authenticator (2FA), SSH Keys, API keys etc.) and newsletter subscription options:





Developer API


This is where you will create your API keys/Access Tokens for BinaryLane. Once a token has been created, you cannot view the token again - you will need to regenerate it using thebutton. You can also rename API keys using the button:






The 'Search' button on the side navigation pane will open the 'Search' feature, allowing you to search for and quickly navigate to active servers, load balancers, VPCs and Domains on your account:



You can press / (forward slash) and Search will open wherever you are on the platform, as long as you're not focused in a text input area/box.




Feedback


The Feedback tab will take you to our new mPanel feedback/support splash with some additional content that was released alongside the new mPanel:




Help Desk


Clicking the 'Help Desk' button will take you to the support portal, where you can access various support resources to assist with managing your services on BinaryLane:

From this page, you can:

  • Access a collection of guides and troubleshooting articles that provide answers to common questions and help resolve issues.

  • New Support Ticket – If you need assistance with your services, you can open a support ticket by clicking
    'A plus symbolNew support ticket '.

  • Check ticket status – You can track the status of your current and past support tickets by clicking
    'Ticket button shaped like a pageCheck ticket status '.



Server Dashboard Navigation and Usage


Your Server Dashboard is where you will primarily interact with your server on BinaryLane. You'll be able to perform tasks such as rebooting, reviewing your server's usage charts, modifying your server's configuration via the 'Change Plan' page, adjusting advanced settings and more:



The dashboard is segmented into 7 parts:


1.  mPanel Navigation Pane:

This is your mPanel navigation pane partially collapsed. You can click on any of those icons to be taken to their respective panes/tabs.

2.  Server Menu:

This is your Server Menu. The top part shows an icon showing the currently installed operating system next to your server's hostname*, beneath that, you can see the region the server was deployed in, and its public IP address.

* Your VPS has two distinct names: the name displayed within mPanel and the hostname configured within the operating system. To modify the displayed hostname within the mPanel, please refer to this helpdesk article we have on the matter: How to rename a service

Show detailed server menu options

Overview

The 'Home' view of your server, showing your server overview, network, disk settings, and the Recovery Console (NoNVC framebuffer stream of your console - Item 6 in the above screenshot).

Remote Access

Provides you with an overview of how you'll connect to this server remotely:




Usage

Here you'll be able to see an overview of your VPSs usage - you can change the view from Day, Week, Month, and Year. If you scroll down, you'll also see usage charts per-resource for CPU, Network, and Storage:



Network

This is the mPanel-level networking settings for your VPS. Here you can see your server's IP address, subnet/netmask/CIDR, the default gateway for the public IP, and the currently set reverse DNS (rDNS). You can change the currently set rDNS by clicking . You can also view/modify your VPC IP settings if your server has joined a VPC, otherwise, you'll see the option instead.

You can enable IPv6 from here by clicking the button .


Clicking on the 'Firewall' tab takes you to your 'External Firewall' for this VPS:


For all new servers created on BinaryLane, an automatic firewall rule blocking outbound TCP connections over ports 22, 25 and 3389 known as 'Port Blocking' will be applied. For new and unreviewed customers, disabling port blocking will become available after your account has been approved.

You can create new firewall rules by clicking the button


The 'External Firewall' ruleset processes rules in descending order, with the top-most rule being applied first and the last-most rule being the final rule to process. Generally, you'll want to apply your accept (allow) rules at the top, with drop (deny) rules underneath. Here's an example of what a basic 'External Firewall' configuration looks like:


You can reorder firewall rules by click-dragging them.

Make sure you save your changes with before leaving this page!

Clicking the 'Port Blocking' tab will take you to your server's Port Blocking feature page, where you can enable/disable it:



Backups

Clicking the 'Backups' tab will take your to your backups page where you can see your active backups including the type of backup (daily, weekly, monthly or temporary), the date of the backup's creation (lable), how old the backup is (age), the operating system, size, wether or not the backup is on-site only or using external backups, and the status indicator will appear if a domain is locked.


Selecting one of the backups will allow you to:
  • Restore a backup (deletes current disk content on the server and replaces it with the selected backup)
  • Attach a backup to your server as a read-only disk
  • Lock a backup to prevent it from being overwritten by the backup cycle
  • Download a raw or compressed backup of your server
  • Clone this backup to another server

Clicking the 'Upload' tab will provide you with the ability to upload an existing backup or image from either a publicly accessible URL source or from a local file:


When uploading a backup, you need to select an existing backup to replace or use the temporary backup slot.

Supported formats for uploading are *.img, *.qp, *.zst, and *.iso.


Clicking the 'Create' button will allow you to access the backup creation menu:



When creating a backup, you need to select an existing backup to replace or use the temporary backup slot.

Selecting the 'Schedule' tab will take you to your backup schedule management page. Here you can modify when your daily/weekly/monthly backups will be taken, configure off-site backups (Set Up Your Own S3 Bucket : BinaryLane), and the frequency overview showing you how often backups are taken, including a quick-access button to the 'Change Plan' page for your server:




Settings

Here is where you can adjust the mPanel hostname for the server, modify/create disks, modify/review advanced settings available for the server, modify/review Usage Alerts, trigger a migration to another region, and enable 'Partner Server'.



As mentioned previously in this article, your VPS has two distinct names: the name displayed within mPanel and the hostname configured within the operating system. Modifying the server name here will change how the server is reflected from within the mPanel - it will not change the hostname at the OS level: How to rename a service

Clicking on the 'Disks' tab will take you to your VPS's disk modification settings page, allowing you to modify, create and delete disk partitions directly from within the mPanel:



We recommend making all disk changes through the mPanel to ensure our systems can accurately interpret your disk state to accommodate change of plan actions.

Clicking 'Advanced' will take you to the Advanced Settings page for your VPS:


You can adjust your processor model, video device, enable specific features/flags, modify the QEMU Real-Time Clock, and set your machine type from here.

We recommend leaving the processor model as 'Automatic', if desired, setting the 'Machine Type' to automatic will ensure that your server receives the latest supported QEMU machine type whenever it is migrated to a new host or restarted, providing improved virtual hardware emulation and bug fixes without manual intervention.

Clicking 'Alerts' will take you to our Usage Alert settings page:



The default values set here are fine for most people, but can be adjusted according to your needs. You can also disable the alerts outright by unchecking the box next to the metric.

Clicking the 'Region' tab will allow you to move this server to another region:



There are certain conditions that must be met before a server is eligible for migration. Please see the following helpdesk article we have for more information: How to migrate your server on BinaryLane

Clicking 'Partner Server' will take you to your partner server settings page, where you can elect another server in the same region to avoid being co-located on the same underlying host node (useful for high-availability setups):

This feature is primarily used in conjunction with our load balancer service: Load Balancer Technical Overview and Setup (Apache & Nginx)


Recovery

The 'Recovery' tab is where you will access all your server's recovery options. Here you'll be able to reset your server's root (Or administrator for Windows) account password, reinstall the operating system, and change the running distribution kernel from your Linux kernel to the Finnix Recovery CD Kernel: 



Clicking 'Reinstall' will take you to your reinstal initialisation page, where you can choose a new hostname, select an SSH key to be configured during redeployment, or define a cloud-init payload/deployment script to run during installation:



Clicking 'Rescue Disk' will take you to your kernel selection page, allowing you to swap over to the Finnix Recovery CD:




Change Plan

Selecting the 'Change Plan' tab will take you to your server’s change plan page, where you can review your current configuration or make changes (e.g. increasing storage, RAM, or changing the server tier from Standard to CPU Optimised):



You can review plan cost differences before committing to changes by scrolling down on this page after making a change.


Cancel Server

You can cancel your server from this tab:




3.  Simple Stats Overview / Command Buttons

Ping
An external 'Ping' test towards your server from our servers to confirm external connectivity

Running
Indicates if your VPS is running and shows your VPS Instance uptime

VCPUs
Current utilisation and how many vCPUs this server has

Memory
Current utilisation and how much memory this server has

Disk
Current utilisation and how much storage this server has

Transfer
Used monthly transfer data, the remainder, and the reset date (Can I pay for additional network transfer data?)


The button will perform a hard restart - it will force a reboot from the 'VM' level.

The button will send a reboot command for your server to process (clean reboot).


4.  Network overview

The Network section provides details about your server's connectivity and security settings. The fields displayed depend on your server's configuration.

Common Fields:

  • Region – The datacenter region (and VPC name, if applicable).
  • Public IP – The external IP assigned to your server.
  • Reverse DNS (rDNS) – The PTR record for your primary IP.
  • Port Blocking – Whether certain outbound ports are restricted.
  • Cloud Firewall – Whether the cloud firewall (External Firewall) is active and how many rules are configured.

Additional Fields (Based on Configuration):

  • Host Node – The physical host your server is running on.
  • Permalink – A persistent hostname for your server.
  • VPC/LAN IP – The private network IP, shown separately when not the primary interface.
  • NAT Target – For VPC NAT configurations, maps public IPs to internal VPC IPs.
  • Remote User – The default login username for your operating system.
  • Remote Access – Link to SSH or Remote Desktop connection details.
  • Secondary IP(s) – Additional public IPs assigned to your server.
  • Failover IP(s) – IPs configured for failover.
  • Load Balancing – Load balancer IPs targeting your server.
  • IPv6 Address – Your assigned IPv6 address(es). If IPv6 is disabled, a button to enable it appears.
  • Mask / Gateway / MTU / Nameservers – Shown only for BYO (unmanaged) operating systems to assist with manual network configuration.
  • Source/Destination Check – VPC only; whether traffic not originating from your instance is allowed through.


5.  Server Disk Details:

The Disk section shows your server's storage allocation and backup status.
  • Allocation – The total disk space allocated to your server. Clicking the link takes you to your disk settings page where you can manage disk partitioning.
  • Last Backup – When your most recent backup was taken. Clicking the link takes you to your server's backup management page


6.  Recovery Console (NoVNC framebuffer stream)
  • The Recovery Console provides direct access to your server’s virtual display using a NoVNC-based framebuffer stream. This feature allows you to interact with your server as if you were physically connected to it, making it an essential recovery tool when standard remote access methods like SSH are unavailable.

    If your server becomes unresponsive or you experience network-related issues preventing internet-based access, the Recovery Console lets you log in and troubleshoot problems directly. This can be especially useful for resolving internal firewall misconfigurations, network settings errors, software crashes or system lock-ups that prevent normal operation.

    Clicking 'Go Full-Screen button will open the console in a larger view, allowing for easier interaction.

Services


Clicking the 'Services' button will take you to your services page, this is where you'll be able to see all your VPSs, Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) and any Load Balancers:

From this page, you'll be able to add new servers using the 'Add Cloud Server' buttonbutton, create a new VPC using'Add VPC' button, or deploy a load balancer using'Add Load Balancer' button.


To navigate to a server's dashboard from within the services page, find the region or VPC your server is in, then click the'Dashboard' buttonbutton on the right-hand side.




Domains


Clicking the 'Domains' button will take you to the management page for your domains. You'll be able to see a list of the domains you've created or transferred into BinaryLane:

You can register new domains or transfer existing domains by clicking'Register/Transfer Domain' button. We can also facilitate DNS hosting for your domains.

If you have any in-store credit, this will be displayed at the top of the page.


You can click'View Account Balance' buttonto get a cumulative overview of your current service cost for the current usage period or add funds to your account:

  1. Top-navigation bar:
    • Home button (Home redirector icon) :

      This button will direct you back to your main server dashboard if you're on any sub-page (e.g. 'Advanced Settings', 'Firewall Editor' etc.)

    • Drop-down box (Server drop-down selector/box) :

      This indicates what service you're currently viewing. You can click this box to quickly navigate to any other services you have on the same BinaryLane account.

    • Settings icon (Cog-icon) :

      This is where you will access shortcuts for your server's settings, clicking this button will open a menu that you can use to navigate to your certain VPS settings:

    • Resource statistics bar (A snipped screenshot of the resource statistics bar as displayed on the mPanel) :

      An at-a-glance overview of your server's reported resource usage, including CPU utilisation percentage, current RAM usage, remaining disk space, the monthly data transfer limit for this service and how many days until this limit resets. This information is pulled from your server's Resource Graphs, accessible via the settings menu.

    • Change Plan ('Change Plan' button) :

      Clicking this button will take you to your server's 'Change Plan' page. From here, you can add more resources to your server or reduce them, change your current operating system (see section 'Rebuilding Your VPS and Choosing Another Operating System' in our helpdesk article How to Rebuild Your VPS for more information) or include additional add-ons (e.g. Remote Desktop SALs, cPanel accounts etc.). You'll be able to review the current cost and monthly change at the bottom of this page before confirming any changes.


  2. Server Status:

    • Here, you'll be able to see if your server is running, if external connectivity towards your server is working via the built-in ping check (see section 'Ping Check in mPanel' in our helpdesk article BinaryLane mPanel service IPs for more information), which region your server is located in, what host-node (the underlying server) your VPS is currently housed on and what the storage type for this server is.

    • You can also restart your server by clicking'Restart' button, which sends a reboot command for the server to process. If the server is unresponsive to these requests, you can perform a Power Cycle using'Power-cycle' button. This forcibly reboots the underlying virtual machine (VM) and may be required in some circumstances.

  3. Server Access Details:
    • This section provides essential access information for your server, including the server’s hostname, 'root' username, and your 'root' password. This password will be masked once you've reloaded the page or navigated away. It also contains a direct permalink - a unique identifier as a permanent DNS "A" record mapping to its IP for automated hostname resolution.  You'll find a quick-access link to our SSH guide, and if your server is linked to a partner server, its details will be displayed in this section.


  4. Server Networking Details:
    • The Network section provides essential details about your server’s connectivity and security settings. The exact fields displayed depend on your server’s configuration, such as whether it is in a VPC with NAT, VPC with a split-NIC setup, or a standard network configuration.

      Common Fields:

      • Public IP Address – The external IP assigned to your server.
      • Internal IP (LAN/VPC IP) – The private network IP, which may be a NAT-assigned address or a separate internal network interface.
      • Reverse DNS (rDNS) – The PTR record for your IP, which can be modified if needed.
      • Port Blocking – Indicates whether certain outbound ports are restricted for security reasons.
      • Cloud Firewall – Shows whether the cloud firewall is enabled or configured.

    • Additional Fields (Based on Configuration):

      • Secondary IP(s) – Additional public IPs assigned to your server.
      • IPv6 Address – Displays your assigned IPv6 address. If IPv6 is disabled, a link to enable it will appear.
      • IPv6 Routed – If applicable, shows the routed IPv6 subnet.
      • Subnet Mask – Specifies the subnet assigned to your public IP.
      • Default Route – Displays the default gateway for outbound traffic.
      • Network MTU – The Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size for the network.
      • Name Servers – Lists the DNS resolvers assigned to your server.
      • Source/Destination Check – A setting typically relevant for VPC-based networking, which determines whether traffic not originating from your instance is allowed through.


  5. Server Disk Details:
    • Here, you can see the total disk space allocated to your server. If you click on the displayed storage amount, you'll be taken to your disk allocation settings page where you can split your primary disk into multiple disks. It also displays when your last backup for this server occurred (clicking on the link will take you to your server's 'Snapshots, Backups & ISO Management' page) and a quick-access link to the 'Reinstall' page for your server.


  6. Kernel Selection Section:
    • This section allows you to change the kernel running on your VPS, enabling you to boot into the Finnix Recovery CD for system maintenance, troubleshooting, or data recovery. The selected kernel determines how your server boots and operates, providing access to different tools and environments.


  7. Recovery Console (NoVNC framebuffer stream)
    • The Recovery Console provides direct access to your server’s virtual display using a NoVNC-based framebuffer stream. This feature allows you to interact with your server as if you were physically connected to it, making it an essential recovery tool when standard remote access methods like SSH are unavailable.
