A new cPanel+WHM server is built from our cPanel image and picks up current versions when it is deployed. This article explains where the operating system, cPanel and PHP versions come from.

Operating system
New cPanel servers are built on the current AlmaLinux release that our cPanel image targets. What operating systems are available? lists the version shown in mPanel.
cPanel version
cPanel is fetched fresh when the server is deployed, so a new server always starts on cPanel's current release. In mPanel this is labelled Latest.
PHP versions
PHP on a cPanel server comes from cPanel's EasyApache 4. A few versions are pre-installed; you can install other versions yourself from WHM > EasyApache 4. Which PHP versions are available is decided by cPanel, not by BinaryLane.
When will a newer PHP version be available?
cPanel adds a PHP version to EasyApache 4 only after PHP has released it upstream, usually some weeks later. We cannot give a date for a particular version, but it will appear in WHM > EasyApache 4 once cPanel packages it.
Check the versions on your server
To see what your own server is running, connect over SSH as root and run:
cat /etc/almalinux-release /usr/local/cpanel/cpanel -V
The PHP versions installed on the server are listed in WHM > EasyApache 4.
