If your Windows VPS won’t boot normally, or you need Safe Mode/Startup Repair, you can access the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) via the mPanel.
Before you start
You’ll need access to the server's Rescue Console (NoVNC framebuffer stream of your server) from within the mPanel (so you can interact with the Windows login screen even if RDP isn’t working).
Method: Trigger Recovery from the login screen (recommended)
Navigate to your server from within the mPanel
Wait for the Windows login screen to appear.
Click the Power icon (bottom-right).
Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.
While still holding Shift, click Restart.
Keep holding Shift (and continue through any restart prompt if shown) until the screen goes black and the server restarts.
Windows should boot into the Recovery options menu (Windows Recovery Environment / WinRE).
Once you’re in Recovery Options
From WinRE, common paths are:
Safe Mode
Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart
Then choose Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking
Startup Repair
Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Repair
Command Prompt
Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Command Prompt
Notes
This process is handled by Windows, and works even when RDP is unavailable.
If the login screen never appears, the VPS may be failing earlier in boot (e.g., disk/bootloader issues). In that case, restore from a backup/snapshot if available, or contact support with console screenshots.
